David L. Blomeyer September 12, 2021

David L. Blomeyer, 69, passed peacefully on September 12, 2021 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale after a day with his daughter sitting beside him.

Dave was born November 2, 1951, in Peoria, Illinois to Dean and Rosetta Blomeyer, who preceded him in death.

Dave graduated with a BS in zoology from SIU Carbondale. He was member of the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, and a member of National Speleological Society.

He loved animals and they loved him; cats would find him and become part of his pack. He was an avid collector of natural things, rocks, fossils, cactus and plants. He enjoyed driving to Crab Orchard Lake to observe animals, traveling to antique malls to hunt for unique items, gardening, and solitude.

Dave enjoyed big meals and long naps. He took many road trips to explore the beautiful places in the United States. As his daughter got older, she and her mother joined him on annual drives to Florida to attend Cardinals spring training games, his daughter’s interest, as well as bask in nature, a shared family interest.

Dave was meticulous in record keeping; he saved years of letters from family and friends. He used words sparingly but enjoyed sitting with loved ones. Simple things made him happy.

He is survived by his daughter, Nora Davis (of St. Louis), her mother, Lynne Davis (of Carbondale), a brother, Alan Blomeyer (of Milwaukee) and a sister, Carol Bibbs, (of Virginia Beach), and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Humane Society of Southern Illinois. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Southern Illinois is entrusted with arrangements.
