John M. Bantner February 25, 2015

MURPHYSBORO — John M. Bantner, 73, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, at home in Murphysboro, surrounded by his loved ones.

John was born Sept. 14, 1941, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to Jerald and Marilyn (Schwarm) Bantner. He was raised by his grandparents, John and Juanita Schwarm of Pana.

He married Elizabeth Springman on May 8, 1965, in Brownstown, and they shared 49 years together.

He attended SIU.

John did soils testing and was in construction management.

He was a member the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Carbondale Aerie 2569. He called Bingo for the club for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and had a wide range of hobbies including the love of history.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; daughter Molly A. (Jerry) Bumpus of Sturgis, Kentucky; sons, John T. (Ruthie Graff) Bantner of Murphysboro, and Lloyd M. (Tiffany) Bantner of Champaign; grandson, Justin Riley of Sturgis; and granddaughter, Christina Lee of Murphysboro; brother, Mike (Judy) Bantner of Pana; and sister, Priscilla McGuire of Clearwater, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and two brothers, Pat Bantner and Dennis Bantner

A celebration of life will be at a later date.

For those who prefer, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and SIH Cancer Center.

Arrangements are entrusted to Walker Funeral Home and Crematory of Carbondale.
