It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Lee Gaffney of Carbondale, Illinois, formerly of Watseka, Illinois. Richard passed away peacefully on Monday, November 2, 2026, at Manor Court of Carbondale.
Richard was born in Watseka, Illinois, to the late Forrest Lee and Violet (Stam) Gaffney.
He leaves behind his loving family, including his children, Chris and Jenny Gaffney of Carbondale, Illinois; Kim Falk of Winnetka, Illinois; and Kay and Scott McClatchey of Carlsbad, California. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Christian Gaffney, Meridith Falk, Jack Falk, Kyle and Maddy McClatchey, and Megan McClatchey and his brother Joe Handy of Watseka, Illinois.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Violet Gaffney; his brother, Chuck Handy; and his stepfather, Joe Handy.
Richard will be lovingly remembered by his family and all those whose lives he touched. His memory will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Graveside services will be held in Watseka, Illinois, at a later date. Service details will be announced once arrangements have been finalized.
Walker Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Illinois has been entrusted with the arrangements.
