Pamela Calhoun ~ Carbondale December 11, 1961 - February 18, 2024

I’m devastated to announce the passing of My Mom, My best friend, My most cherished companion- Pam Calhoun at just 62 years young.

Finding words for my mother’s obituary is something I thought I’d have at least 20 more years to prepare for. How do I even begin?

She was born December 11, 1961 in Carbondale, Illinois the daughter of Don and Georgia (Clark) Kelley.

My mom started working at Giant City School when I started Kindergarten there. She worked there for 28 years before retiring. She watched a lot of kids grow up and she loved it.

She was funny, loving, generous, kind, and always up for adventure. I am so grateful to be an only child with two incredibly supportive and loving parents.

Before I became a mother, you could find my mom and I out having drinks, shopping, fishing, sitting outside watching my dad cook up something good. After I became a mom, nothing much changed except everything.

I was able to watch my mom blossom into the most phenomenal grandma the world has ever seen. She loved my kids astronomically and unfathomably.

My mom and dad (Bob Calhoun) started dating when they were just teenagers. They were kids together and grew up together figuring out their life together. Married 40 years, their love for each other is extraordinary and they set an example for Chris and me.

I am deeply grateful for our trips and memories made. She will be profoundly missed.

Pam is survived by her husband Bob Calhoun of Carbondale, daughter Lindsey and Chris Blumenstock of Carbondale and her precious grandchildren Brailyn and Carson all of Carbondale and her parents Don and Georgia Kelley of Carbondale.

There will be a private celebration in her honor with beers at the beach. Instead of flowers, Budweiser, Natural Light and Pizza preferred.

Walker Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Illinois entrusted with arrangements.

Lindsey, I’m so sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. I have only fond memories of her, her laugh, and her love for you and your dad while I was teaching at Giant City. I left before you got married and started your family but I imagine she was quite proud of you all. Hugs and prayers…

My heart goes out to Pam’s family. Pam and I worked together at Giant City School for many years. She helped me with endless PreK paperwork and was always there in a positive way to support our PreK program. Pam and I could talk forever about our children and as the years went on about our grandchildren. I will always cherish her friendship. I will miss her so very much! Love Ms Mary
