In Loving Memory of Marsha Kay Thompson
Marsha Kay Thompson, 74, of DeSoto, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on March 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 9, 1950, in Carbondale, Illinois, to the late James and Dorothy (Page) Furgerson, Marsha lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear.
On October 5, 1968, Marsha married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Thompson. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared over 56 wonderful years of marriage, rooted in faith, family, and friendship.
Though she was a homemaker by title, Marsha’s true calling was caring for children. For more than 40 years, she lovingly welcomed countless little ones into her home, providing a safe haven full of kindness, guidance, and joy. To many, she was not just a caregiver—she was a second mother, a guiding light, and a source of unconditional love.
Marsha’s heart was full of simple joys—traveling with her cherished “Granny Pals” (her mother, sister, and cousins), especially to their favorite spot in Branson, Missouri; listening to Elvis Presley; collecting angels; and most of all, caring for others. Her home was a sanctuary, her presence a comfort, and her love truly knew no bounds.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bob Thompson of DeSoto; her children: Dean (Kelly) Thompson of Murphysboro, Jason (Debi) Thompson of DeSoto, and Angie Thompson (Trey Ford) of DeSoto; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her beloved sister, Lisa (John) Milligan of Douglas, Wyoming.
Marsha is reunited in peace with her parents, James and Dorothy Furgerson, and her sister, Carolyn Epperheimer.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 4, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale, Illinois. Services will begin at 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow at Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro.
Walker Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Marsha’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a testament to love, kindness, and family—a legacy that will never be forgotten.
