Sandra Lee Shafer, 85, of Royalton, peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the comfort of God’s love.
Sandra was born on January 26, 1941, in Illinois, to the late Raymond and Lillian (Summers) James. She lived a life marked by quiet strength, enduring faith, and a deep love for her family. Sandra found comfort in God’s promises and trusted in His grace throughout her life.
She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Thomas Dale Shafer, who preceded her in death on March 24, 2016. Together they shared many cherished years, building a family founded on love and devotion.
Sandra leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved son, Thomas “Tom” Dale Shafer Jr. of Hurst; her brother, Chipper James and his wife, Patty, of Hurst; cousins, Gilbert McBride of Chicago and Robbie Karas of West Frankfort; her nephew, Regge E. Walker of Carbondale and Larry and Joyce Shafer of Missouri; brother in law Larry Shafer of Stanford; nieces Renee Tate and Robin and Jim George along with extended family and friends who were blessed to know and love her.
She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Raymond and Lillian James; her beloved husband, Thomas Dale Shafer Sr.; her son, Todd Shafer; and her infant twin daughters, Staci and Traci Shafer.
Though her family grieves her earthly absence, they rejoice in the assurance that she has been reunited with those who have gone before her and now rests in the eternal peace and joy of her Heavenly Father’s kingdom. Her faith, kindness, and loving spirit will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Walker Funeral Home in Hurst. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon, with Reverend Robert Flowers officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Blairsville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sandra’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
Walker Funeral Home of Hurst has been honored to serve the Shafer family with arrangements.
