Betty F. Cross, 87, passed away Friday April 1, 2022 in Herrin, Illinois.

Betty was born January 25, 1935 in Carbondale, Illinois the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Lillian (Holliday) Cross.

Betty graduated from Carbondale Community High School in 1952. She went right to work at the Good Luck Glove Factory and worked there a few years making lifelong friends. She was then offered a job at Hewitt’s Drug Store which she loved. She made many close friends there that she so cherished. When that store closed, she went to work at Old National Bank which she loved and stayed there till she retired in 2000. As usual, Betty made many friends there that she has kept close to. She always said they were wonderful years and wonderful people. But one job never seemed to be enough, as she worked part-time at Nutrition Headquarters for many years, usually on Saturday and Sundays. Again, Betty loved her job and the staff and customers alike and considered them all her friends. She also enjoyed working with Cancer Walks and always volunteered when she was needed. But her greatest love was the time with her nieces and nephews from the time they were toddlers to adults. She was so proud of all of them. Betty loved her girls, her white kitties always named Cloe and Sissy.

She is survived by her brother; Clarence Cross II; sister Patricia and Roscoe Holder; nephews; Bill and Jennifer Cross; Chanse and Lisa Holder; Zane and Sarah Holder; nieces; Donna Cross; Hilary and Jack Dresel; many great nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; Clarence and Lillian Cross; sister-in-law Betty L. Cross.

Memorial donations may be made to: The American Cancer Society, Hospice of Southern Illinois, or any Animal Rescue Shelter of your choice.

Graveside services will be held Saturday April 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.

Walker Funeral Home of Carbondale is entrusted with arrangements.

    Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!
