Jack Dwayne “Jackie” Rushing, 69, of Murphysboro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Jackie was born on November 27, 1956, in Carbondale, Illinois, the son of the late Harley Ross and Patricia (Cannon) Rushing.
Jackie was a skilled carpenter by trade, taking pride in the work of his hands. However, the role that meant the most to him was his time working at a Jackson County Nursing Home, where he spent over 20 years. There, he built meaningful connections and formed many lifelong friendships, touching the lives of those around him with his kindness and steady presence.
Above all, Jackie cherished his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved.
He is survived by his children, Jake and Rachel Rushing of Mulkeytown, and Brandon and Amy Rushing of Carterville; his adopted stepdaughter, Jenny Provo; siblings; Harley and Kelly Rushing of Ziegler; Tony and Andi Rushing of Desoto; Cathy Rushing of Desoto; his grandchildren, Destiny Rushing, Daxton Rushing, Jude Rushing, Jaxon Rushing, and Reece Rushing; his great-grandchildren, Legend Rendleman and Nove Rose Kimbrough; and his caregiver, Susan White, along with many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Patricia Rushing; his sister, Kelly Jo Rushing; and his dear friend, Fred Provo.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Walker Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Illinois has been entrusted with arrangements.
