In Loving Memory of Robert “Bob” Thompson
Robert “Bob” Thompson, age 77, of DeSoto, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on February 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born on January 18, 1949, in Carbondale, Illinois, the son of the late Delvin and Lucille (Edwards) Thompson.
On October 5, 1968, Bob was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marsha Kay Thompson. Together, they shared more than 56 wonderful years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, family, and lasting friendships.
In his younger years, Bob operated Thompson’s Texaco on South Illinois Avenue in Carbondale alongside his brother. He later dedicated over 40 years of service to Vogler Ford. Bob was a proud member of the Carbondale Eagles #2569 and faithfully served his
community as a volunteer firefighter for the Village of DeSoto.
Bob is lovingly survived by his children: Dean (Kelly) Thompson of Murphysboro, Jason (Debi) Thompson of DeSoto, and Angie Thompson (Trey Ford) of DeSoto; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, Jim (Jan) Thompson; and his sister-in-law, Jo
Ann Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents his wife Marsha Kay Thompson and his brother, Gene Thompson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale, Illinois. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Steve Marriott and Pastor Joe Wagner officiating with interment to follow at Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro.

Bob’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. His life was a true testament to love, service, and a family legacy that will never be forgotten.
